- NAK-karitativ gets involved in Africa’s Sahel region
Dortmund. After the unusually strong rainfalls in the countries of the Sahel region, NAK-karitativ, the relief organisation of the New Apostolic Church in Germany, has begun to assess the immediate and intermediate relief measures it will need to initiate, and has set funds aside for corresponding projects. Donations are welcome.
The countries of the Sahel region on the African continent have recently seen the most serious flooding in human memory. Millions of people, from Senegal in the west to Uganda in the east of the continent, have been affected by the disaster. The destruction of harvests and the fact that a great deal of fertile farmland has been swept away by the floods has led to fears of serious residual damage in addition to the current acute crisis.
52,000 Euros of emergency aid for earthquake victims in Peru
Meanwhile, emergency aid has also arrived in Peru to help victims of an earthquake there. NAK-karitativ has initiated emergency relief and reconstruction projects in Peru in cooperation with Bonn-based HELP e.V.–helping others help themselves—and HelpAge-Germany, based in Osnabruck. In cooperation with these two German relief organisations and their Peruvian partners, NAK-karitativ is working to support emergency aid and reconstruction efforts in the earthquake zone. HELP e.V. has already worked in partnership with NAK-karitativ in its reconstruction efforts in Pakistan after an earthquake there in 2005. NAK-karitativ maintains a lively exchange of information with its partner organisations and will continue to report on common initiatives. To date, some 52,000 Euros have been released from the disaster relief fund.
