- HIV & AIDS Awareness
Mayflower. The Mpumalanga South area hosted a festival on 2 December 2006. Organised by the local HIV/Aids committee, the event was held at the Mayflower Community Hall. It was part of a drive to both create awareness and educate our members about HIV/Aids. The highlight of the event was the annual speech contest held for the Youth.
The topic for 2006 was dealing with teenage pregnancy, HIV/Aids and poverty in the 21st century. Eight contestants delivered their speeches to a group of 80 people. The 2006 winner was Precious Dube of Mayflower District.
Commemorating Victims of HIV/AIDS
The area of Bishop Meyer held a candle light ceremony to commemorate the victims of HIV/Aids. The ceremony took place at the Matsulu church on 1 December 2006. Mr. Ngomane Isaac from the Mpumalanga Health Department was the guest speaker. The Youth and Sunday School children also recited poems and rendered hymns on this important subject.
