Life’s goal: ascension

Jesus Christ died, rose from the dead, and ascended into heaven. His ascension was the conclusion and crowning achievement of His earthly existence. His resurrection would have been incomplete without it. The two are closely linked.

But ascension must not only be the conclusion and crowning of Jesus Christ’s earthly life. We have the same goal and desire that our ascension should mark the conclusion and crowning of our earthly life. Our goal is our own ascension.

Jesus Christ was a true man. And as a true man He carried out His mission, and it was as a true man that He ascended to heaven, into fellowship with God.

It had never before happened that a human being could enter into fellowship with God, share in the glory of God, and have close communion with Him. This was something totally new. The new man in God was now able to enter into fellowship with God, thus opening up the possibility for all human beings to enter into fellowship with God.
