- The Chief Apostle in Yogyakarta
Yogyakarta. At the beginning of July 2007 Chief Apostle Wilhelm Leber visited Indonesia. This was the third and last stop on his trip to Australia, the South Pacific, and Asia. After a 22-hour trip, the travellers reached the hotel in Bandung at around midnight. Meetings in the Bandung church administration were scheduled for the next day.
The following day the trip continued by both car and airplane to Yogyakarta, via Jakarta. That evening the Chief Apostle invited all the district leaders of the region to a meeting in the Gendeng church.
On Saturday, 7 July the international Church leader and his companions began the day by visiting the Hindu temple of Prambanan before embarking on a tour of the congregation of Mawen. The church building there had been totally destroyed by an earthquake last year (we reported). Four of our brethren in faith were among the many victims who lost their lives in the town and its surroundings. The church building had been rebuilt in the space of only six months, thanks to many donations.
That evening there was a festive concert in the Wana Bhaki Yasa Hall. The program featured many impressive performances, some of them on the angklung. A divine service in the Grand Pacific Hall attended by more than 7,000 brethren marked the end of the Chief Apostle’s Asian trip.
