- Festive days in Freetown: Chief Apostle Wilhelm Leber in Sierra Leone
Freetown. Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone, was the starting point of a four-day journey that Chief Apostle Wilhelm Leber made to the West African country. In the divine service on Sunday, 5 March 2006 he ordained two apostles and two bishops.
The administrative and pastoral care work of the New Apostolic Church in Sierra Leone is supported by the District Church of Southern Germany. Its District Apostle Klaus Saur, president of the New Apostolic Church of Southern Germany, along with District Apostles Guillermo José Vilor (Brazil) and Wolfgang Nadolny (Berlin), also accompanied the chief apostle on this trip. On Saturday, 4 March 2006 there was a divine service in Port Loco, and on Sunday, 5 March 2006, another followed in the country’s capital of Freetown.
During the Sunday service in the Freetown Central church, the international leader of the New Apostolic Church ordained Albert Garber (49) an apostle for the District Church of Sierra Leone. Another apostle, Beugre Farras Koffi (37), was ordained for the District Church of Ivory Coast. In addition, the chief apostle ordained two bishops for the District Churches of Guinea and Liberia, namely Bonhando Tolno (51) and Alexander Wreh (36), respectively.
The Sunday divine service, which was broadcast by radio, was based on a Bible passage from Acts 10: 34-35. There are some 100,000 New Apostolic Christians living in Sierra Leone.
