- The Catechism continues to develop
The New Apostolic Church is updating its most authoritative textbook. This was decided by the International District Apostle Meeting during its most recent session.
There is no standing still for the Church. Even after the publication of the Catechism in 2012, the New Apostolic doctrine continued to progress. The biggest changes since then have occurred in our definition of ministry, which resulted in a structural reform in 2019 and the introduction of the ordination of women in 2023. In addition, doctrinal statements have been refined and clarifications published.
Relevant new aspects are now to be incorporated into the Catechism. During its meeting in Accra in Ghana, the District Apostle Meeting defined a corresponding procedure and appointed a sixteen-member project group for the spadework. The District Apostles and the Chief Apostle will decide which revisions will finally be made to the Catechism.
Responsibilities presented
In charge of the project is the so-called Coordination Group, which prepares the decision-making process of the District Apostle Meeting in spiritual matters. The group was recently reorganised and presented its responsibilities to the highest decision-making body of the New Apostolic Church.
Chief Apostle Jean-Luc Schneider is thus responsible for theological subjects. District Apostle Peter Lambert (Southern Africa) is responsible for our doctrine of faith. District Apostle Helper Helge Mutschler (Northern and Eastern Germany) is responsible for the subject of congregational life, District Apostle Thomas Deubel (Switzerland) for congregation management, and District Apostle Stefan Pöschel (Western Germany) for organisational aspects such as church construction and membership development.
A total of 362 active Apostles
Also on the agenda were: progress reports on the development of the online learning tool on the module “The sermon” and the relaunch of nac.today, the information portal of the New Apostolic Church International.
A look at the changes in the circle of the Apostles showed that there are currently 339 active Apostles worldwide, eight District Apostle Helpers, fourteen District Apostles, and the Chief Apostle. The District Apostle Helpers Elie Tatien Mukinda from the Democratic Republic of the Congo West and Arnaud Martig from Canada were welcomed in the circle of the District Apostle Meeting.
