- To ensure a smooth handover in Uruguay
Uruguay has a new Apostle. Priest Alfredo Silveira was ordained to succeed Apostle Herman Ernst.
Alfredo Aníbal Silveira Etcheverry was born in 1971 in Montevideo in Uruguay, where he still lives today. He is married and has two children. He received his first ministry as a Subdeacon in the congregation of Colón in 1991. Most recently, Priest Silveira was active as a district rector.
Chief Apostle Jean-Luc Schneider ordained him an Apostle in a divine service in Buenos Aires in Argentina on 30 March 2025. Alfredo Silveira will initially assist Edwin Herman Ernst Guigou, who has been responsible for Uruguay until now. Apostle Ernst was assigned as a District Apostle Helper in the same divine service and is now familiarising himself with the leadership of the District Apostle Area South America.
