- Heavy storms hit the Southern Cape
Cape Town. Widespread damage was caused by the storm which hit the Southern Cape on Monday 31 July 2006, and continued for the next few days. At least four people died, and many people lost all their belongings. The heavy rains caused many businesses and schools to close.
District Apostle Barnes intended to visit the Brackenhill congregation, near Knysna, on Wednesday, 2 August 2006, but all flights to and from George airport were cancelled. The 1km road stretch off the N2 to Brackenhill’s church could only be reached by 4×4 vehicles. Subsequently, many plans had to be rearranged.
