- EYD-Motto: “Christ – my future!”
Zurich. “Christ – my future!” is the official motto of the eagerly awaited European Youth Day of the New Apostolic Church, which is scheduled to take place from 21 to 24 May 2009. Chief Apostle Wilhelm Leber, international leader of the New Apostolic Church and patron of this project had the following to say on the subject: “Christ – my future is more than merely a short-term slogan that has been chosen for the moment. This exclamation contains great power, and would lend itself well as a personal maxim in life.”
In his words of welcome to the participants of the youth day, the Church leader goes on to say that Jesus Christ is at the start of all Christian fellowship. “He is the head of the Church, its Author and its Finisher. Let us allow Him to form and shape our personal future. May He determine our conduct and lead us to liberty – to redemption – and to our salvation!” This means, said the Chief Apostle, “that we must follow Him, call upon Him, profess Him, and believe in Him already here and now.”
Further on, the Chief Apostle’s welcome states that the motto of the Youth Day is to express our certainty that we are touched, loved, and sent by Jesus, that we feel secure in - and can be involved in - the international fellowship of the Church, and that we experience our faith in daily life, as we prepare ourselves for the coming of the Lord.
In the meantime, over 30,000 young people from all over Europe and a number of other countries outside of Europe have registered to attend the European Youth Day at the Düsseldorf fairgrounds. More information in both German and English is available on the event’s website http://www.ejt2009.eu/en/.
