- NAK-karitativ and World Relief Fund work together to provide aid
Dortmund/Sea Cliff (USA). NAK-karitativ, the aid organisation of the New Apostolic District Churches across Germany, and the World Relief Fund of the New Apostolic Church USA have joined forces to execute an aid campaign to provide hunger relief in East Africa. Initial funds in the amount of 25,000 Euro and US $50,000 respectively are earmarked for the East African regions hardest hit by the serious drought.
The first direct relief efforts will be made in Kenya, where more than 2.5 million inhabitants have been affected by the most serious "hunger season" in over a decade. The local administration of the New Apostolic Church in Nairobi did not delay in making the necessary preparations. The first aid deliveries, consisting of maize and beans, already began arriving in the villages and congregations at the beginning of February. A portion of the funds will also be used for long-term projects — for example, drilling wells — to help communities become self-sufficient.
Both partner organisations — NAK-karitativ and NAC USA's World Relief Funds — consider this first official project the successful debut of more permanent cooperation on an international level.
On the German side, NAK-karitativ plans to make information on how to make direct donations to "Hunger Relief East Africa" available to members of the New Apostolic Church on its websites. The New Apostolic Church USA will also publish articles and reports on successful relief efforts executed with these funds on its Website over the coming months.
