- Festive mood in Baku
Zurich. Baku is the capital of Azerbaidzhan. This country has never before received a visit from a chief apostle, but on Sunday, 16 May 2004 such a visit finally came into being. In the company of District Apostle Wilhelm Leber, Chief Apostle Richard Fehr conducted a divine service in the church building of the New Apostolic Church in Baku.
Around 300 souls-among them many guests-enjoyed the serving of the chief apostle and the apostles. The divine service was based on a passage from 1 John 5: 4: "For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world-our faith." In his serving the chief apostle emphasised that we must overcome whatever contradicts the divine nature and life, stating that this is how we overcome the "world" and go from victory to victory.
The church's activities in Azerbaidzhan are co-ordinated and financed by the District Church of North Rhine-Westphalia (Germany) (see www.nak.de/nrw/p_3.html).
